Are you in God’s house?

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - A podcast by Norm Wakefield

Hebrews 3:5-6 Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later; but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house-whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. The author continued his comparison of Jesus and Moses by stating that Moses was faithful as a servant in God’s house. The explanation of his faithfulness was to come later in Christ. The author illustrated Moses’ faith in Heb. 11:23-29. Moses was faithful because God justified him in Christ by faith. Let’s note that a servant receives his wages and stewardship from the head of the house. The Messiah, the Christ, is more than a servant, He is the Son of the Master builder of the house. The Son is appointed or sent by God to care for His house, which includes all of God’s servants and family members. The author identified the members of God’s house: they hold fast their confidence in Jesus as God’s apostle and high priest sent to bring them to glory in the world to come. They hold firm the hope of glory until the very end of their lives. They have a hope worth boasting of which is anchored in Jesus as God’s Son and the work He has done for them. The author encouraged his readers that they were God’s house IF they too had an enduring faith in Christ like Moses did. There is our encouragement from this verse. Are you holding fast to your confidence in Christ? Is Jesus your hope of glory? What does that mean? How can we know if we are in God’s house? Do you remember Paul writing to the Colossians, “Christ in you, the hope of glory”? If you look at the first of Paul’s letter he told them how he knew they were in God’s house. He wrote, We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have for all the saints; because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth. Faith in Christ and love for the brothers and sisters who are on their way to glory with you is the evidence that you are in God’s family. You have the faith and love of Jesus dwelling in you, which is another way of saying you live to love with Jesus. You believe He lives in you and you know He is love, so you live for His life of love to flow out of you. Jesus is your confidence and the hope you boast in as you hold fast to Him until the end of your days. If that’s you, then you are in God’s house.
