Be fully satisfied in God’s love.

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - A podcast by Norm Wakefield

Romans 9:10-12 And not only this, but there was Rebekah also, when she had conceived twins by one man, our father Isaac; for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that God's purpose according to His choice would stand, not because of works but because of Him who calls, it was said to her, "The older will serve the younger.” Paul continued explaining the wisdom of God revealed in the history of his brethren for whom he had great sorrow and grief. The wisdom of God was their inheritance, yet they totally were missing it. In vss. 3-5 Paul itemized the blessings they had received such as the Law and the promises to the fathers, but they could not see that these all pointed to a righteousness from God given as a gift through Jesus Christ. In these verses, he unpacked another part of their history based on the promise “through Isaac your descendants shall be named.” Before her twins were born, before any actions could be considered as a basis for the prophetic word, God said to Rebekah, “The older will serve the younger.” This story highlights the three foundational truths of living to love with Jesus. It illustrates Jesus’ worldview and ours. 1). There is one God from whom all things come, and He is love. 2). Jesus’ love is enough. He alone, His will alone satisfies my soul. 3). God’s purpose in all things is to make us like Jesus and prepare us for eternity. For Rebekah, she should have reasoned in her heart something like this: This is from God. I’ll be satisfied with His will, love, and wisdom. And God is working out His eternal purposes in me and my sons. However, we know from the story that Rebekah tried to work out God’s will in her own ways instead of trusting God. May we not be that way. Let us trust that we cannot be separated from God’s love in Christ. Let us receive encouragement from these verses to be satisfied fully in His love, and know that He is working out His will for His glory in our lives and in the lives of those He puts in our paths.
