Believers are for signs and wonders to Israel

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - A podcast by Norm Wakefield

Hebrews 2:13 And again, “I will put My trust in Him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me.” Notice that the quotes from verses 12-13 are from Jesus. These are His words to the Father showing that all things are for the Father and through the Father as stated in verses 10-11 of chapter 2. More than likely these quotes are from Isaiah 8:17-18. “And I will wait for the Lord who is hiding His face from the house of Jacob; I will even look eagerly for Him. Behold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are for signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion.” Wow! Isn’t this encouraging?! We, believers, the church of Jesus Christ are for signs and wonders for Israel. Let me remind you of what the author wrote in vs. 3. “After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.” Can you see the connection between the Isaiah passage and this second chapter of Hebrews? The biggest sign and wonder to Israel is that their God, the Father, who is love, has sent His Son into this world and given Him a people who have His love, a supernatural quality that only they possess and demonstrate. That love flows out in miraculous ways, as God works in the circumstances of their lives and gives them the gifts of the Holy Spirit so they can love with Jesus. That’s what the gifts of the Holy Spirit are. They enable us to love with Jesus. So Jesus says, “Behold!” Which means, “look at”, “see”, or “observe.” We have been given to Him from God, the Father, and He praises His God for us and sings with us because we are the work of His hands in this world and a witness to His people Israel, that He is their Messiah, and a covenant-keeping God of love. By the way, Mount Zion, is the place of salvation to the Jews. I’m reminded of Romans 9:30-31. Paul wrote, What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, attained righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith; but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law. Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone, just as it is written, “BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” I have a Jewish friend in South Africa who was converted when he heard these verses. As he heard them, the Spirit spoke, “Jesus is the stumbling stone and rock of offense” that God laid in Zion, the place of salvation. He believed and has not been disappointed. He is one of the children, with the rest of us, who are for a signs and wonders to Israel. Today, we live to love with Him because we are His for the glory of His name.
