Believers died when Jesus died.

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - A podcast by Norm Wakefield

Romans 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death… We are only going to look at the first great truth declared in Rom. 6:4. Everyone who has been justified by God and who stands in the grace of which Paul wrote in 5:1, is identified with Jesus Christ. That’s what baptism into Christ means. We were immersed, buried, placed into the death and resurrection of Jesus. Paul wanted his readers to understand why they should not continue in sin since the grace of God super abounds, conquering sin and death. Because we died to our fleshly, sinful lives in this world when Jesus died to this world, it is unthinkable that we would continue living for the same purpose, namely ourselves. Our greatest hindrance to living to love with Jesus is thinking that our natural life continues as the source of our lives. This great truth, that our identity is in Christ, is vital to living to love with Jesus. The unbelief, feelings, fears, pains, disappointments, values, worldview, and mindset which we had before we trusted in Christ have died and are no longer what identifies us in this world. When we consider ourselves dead to the old life, we are set free from these hindrances to love. Tomorrow, we’ll be encouraged by the great reality that we have been raised with Jesus. But today, be encouraged and remember that when Jesus died, you died to selfish living. Lay aside your old life and live to love today with Jesus for His glory.
