Drinking for the sake of others

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - A podcast by Norm Wakefield

Hebrews 6:7 For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God; It’s an interesting contrast the author reiterates between someone who merely tastes and another who drinks. The picture is of God providing an abundant supply of rain to a piece of ground, which then nourishes the vegetation so that the farmer can eat. The author is focused on the blessing the ground receives. We, the believers, are the ground in this analogy. When we receive God’s word and give what we receive to others, we receive a blessing from God. It’s a blessing to be an instrument in His hands for the sake of others.  That’s why we should intentionally live to love with Jesus. As we abide in Him, we receive the rain of the Spirit, His love, which often falls on us. The rain is given for the sake of others. If we drink in the love of God that is poured out in and on our lives and then extend His love to others, we receive a blessing from God. What an incredible, wonderful, fruitful purpose for living! Let's drink in the grace of God to us today, not for ourselves but for others. Since He is the source of the blessing, He will get the glory.
