God set us free through Jesus Christ.

Romans 7:24-25 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin. Can we not all relate to Paul’s cry, “Wretched man that I am!” as we realize we are prisoners of sin within our bodies? “How are we to be set free from the body of sin, the body of this death?” asked Paul. Today, let’s rejoice with Paul in our deliverance from being prisoners of war in our bodies. God has set us free through Jesus Christ, our Lord! How did He set us free? We now come full circle. Rom. 7:4 “Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God.” This was and is God’s plan that fruitfulness to occur in the lives of those who believe in Jesus. Paul explained this great truth further in the next chapter, so we’ll wait to unpack how God set us free. Today, can we not simply rejoice that we have been set free from the body of sin that would hinder or prevent us from doing the good that we want to do, namely, love the people God puts in our lives? I hope you’ll join me in thanking God for sending His Son to die for us. On the cross, God set us free from this body of death, by crucifying it with Christ. Paul had been working out this truth all the way back from chapter 6, vs. 6 where he introduced it, “Knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin.” Father, we rejoice today that You set us free from our bodies of sin as you united us with Jesus’ death on the cross. Thank You for putting our bodies of sin to death and making them powerless that we might live a new life with Jesus today and everyday. Hallelujah! Praise Your name! To You be the glory through Jesus Christ, Your son and our Lord and Savior. Fill us today with gratefulness and joy as we live to love with You.
