God’s open house showing

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - A podcast by Norm Wakefield

Hebrews 3:3 For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house. Recently I visited a friend who is building a new house. It’s quite a house! Although I was impressed with the house, I was more impressed with my friend. He had thought through all the details of the house. Everything was first class. Just before I left, I praised him for the excellent job he has done. It never crossed my mind to honor the house. It wouldn’t exist without him. He is the builder. This illustrates what the author of Hebrews said in this verse. Jesus is worthy of greater glory because He is the builder of God’s house, and Moses is just a small fixture in God’s house. This truth is worthy of our consideration as we fix our eyes on Jesus. He’s not just a prophet like Moses. We are to be encouraged that Jesus is worthy of our living for His glory. We are here for Him. Paul echoed this truth when he wrote to the Ephesians saying that “we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them” (2:10). The builder of a house has a blueprint from which he works. Those plans are laid out beforehand for the construction crew to follow or “walk in.” We live to love by design and foreordination. We don’t live to love on the fly, doing whatever we want and asking God to bless it. We wake up each day with an awareness that we have been chosen to walk in His plans, His blueprint. He is already ahead of us in our day, moving people and circumstances to build God’s house as He designed it. His will is being done on earth as it is in heaven. Then as we walk by the Spirit, with the presence and power of Christ, we are walking through God’s house that He is building in history. It is impressive, excellent, first-class, and worthy of honor. But Jesus is to be counted worthy of more glory than we are, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house. Today, all that we do in Christ, walking in love with Him, brings Him glory and honor. As He works in us, He is bringing us to share in His glory when the house is finished and God shows “the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus” in the age to come (Eph. 2:7). Let us give Jesus glory by living to love with Him with a view to the open house showing.
