The Law gives sin the opportunity to live.

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - A podcast by Norm Wakefield

Romans 7:9 I was once alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin became alive and I died;  Look at the sinfulness of sin—that it takes someone who was once alive and kills them! We can best see this truth in the lives of Adam and Eve. Before God gave them a law, they were alive to God. Sin could not come alive because apart from the Law, it doesn’t even exist. The power of sin is the Law (1 Cor. 15:56). After God spoke the words, “but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die” (Gen. 2:17), sin was aggravated by the Law, Satan deceived and tempted them with lies. When they committed the forbidden deed, they died. And that’s how sin works with the Law. I want to encourage you today with this wonderful truth. In light of what Paul wrote here, can you see what a blessing you have received by being released from the Law when Jesus died on the cross? He fulfilled all of the Law’s demands and bore the curse of the Law, ending its jurisdiction over everyone who believes in Jesus. I like how Paul put it to the Colossians. Colossians 2:13-14 "When you were dead  in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us (that’s the Law), which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.” God took the Law out of the way. Therefore sin cannot live as far as believers are concerned! Let that sink in! As Paul wrote in 6:6, “sin has been made powerless.”  The other day, God put Renee´ in my path at the park where I walk. I’ve met her before and prayed for her. So when I saw her, I asked if I could pray for anything specific in her life. I shared the Live to Love prayer with her and then encouraged her that God knew her today and loved her. I could tell she was touched and blessed by Jesus’ love. Today, we are freed from the Law to live to love with Jesus. We don’t love because we have to, we love because we want to and get to. It’s a wonderful privilege to meet, listen, care, encourage, and pray for those God puts in our paths—that’s how the kingdom of God rolls.
