We have a great high priest

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - A podcast by Norm Wakefield

Hebrews 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. In chapters 2-4, the author had been telling his readers what a great high priest Jesus is. He has eternal life and loves righteousness. He partook of flesh and blood so He could make purification for our sins and bring us to glory. He was faithful in His temptations and suffering so He could be merciful and come to our aid. He was God’s appointed One to be our savior, therefore, we have heard this and God has united it with faith in our hearts. He has brought God to us and us to God through His intercessory work. The author wrote, “Therefore, since we have a great high priest.” What is the therefore there for? If God sees that He has granted faith in your heart to believe His Word regarding His Son, then you have entered God’s Sabbath rest, and Jesus is your high priest! And since He has passed through the heavens and has sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high in heaven, let us with strength, hold fast to, or cling to, our confession. Our confession is what we have agreed to be true regarding Jesus Christ, which is the description I just gave of Jesus, our high priest. How do we hold fast to our confession since we have such a great high priest? He’s going to answer that one in verse 16, but for now, I want to encourage you by highlighting the words with Jesus in our purpose for living—living to love with Jesus. As we read or hear these things about Jesus, our hearts should respond with love for God. Jesus is the Father’s provision to us. He gave Him to be our great high priest. That means God is for us! Today, let’s live with confidence in His provision to us as our sacrifice for sins. Let’s be amazed at Jesus as the author of our faith and salvation. And more, let’s hold on to our confidence that He lives in us to live His righteousness through us, which is love.
