We love others out of the security of His love

Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - A podcast by Norm Wakefield

Hebrews 1:10-12 And, “You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the works of Your hands; they will perish, but You remain; and they all will become old like a garment, and like a mantle You will roll them up; like a garment they will also be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will not come to an end.” These words are again from God, speaking of the Son. He calls Jesus, “Lord.” Isn’t it encouraging to know that we have the Lord, God, who laid the foundation of the earth and created the heavens, living inside of us? And if that were not enough, His life is eternal! The earth and the heavens will age and be thrown away. The author imagines them as the Lord’s piece of clothing that is worn for awhile, but then He changes clothes. The Lord Jesus, however, isn’t temporal and isn’t like His creation. He is the same forever. He does not age or change. This crucial truth anchors us when everything around us ages and changes, even we ourselves in the flesh. Security comes from basing our lives on what cannot change. In this verse, we are encouraged to live to love with Him who is always love and who always loves us. The apostle Paul echoed this great reality and foundation in Romans 8 when he wrote that nothing can separate us from His love because He has decided to love us forever. He is for us. Consider for a moment what we read here. Look at everything around you, and imagine God rolling it up and casting it away. How much of your life and significance is wrapped up, no pun intended, in what is temporal? I am looking out the window at the expansive Atlantic ocean wrapped in the blue sky. I’m in awe of Jesus when I think of it as merely clothing Him for a short time. Yet, we have been united with Him in the heavenlies, and in a similar sense we are dressed in His righteousness. Our garment of righteousness will never age or need to be changed. We are encouraged today that our lives are anchored into Him who is always the same. He never changes. We love others out of the security of His love—a love that endures forever.
