Live to Love Scripture Encouragement - A podcast by Norm Wakefield

Romans 8:3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, In verse 3, we see what Paul was doing through chapter 7, namely, showing his readers why the Law of God, the Ten Commandments, could not produce fruit for God. God’s Law didn’t have a weakness. It did what it was assigned to do by God. The weakness was with the flesh from the beginning. It was assigned to sin, and when faced with the Law, it did just that. Remember Adam and Eve? That’s why Paul called it “sinful flesh.” Ok, let’s not miss what Paul was saying here. God never intended for the flesh to be able to obtain or produce righteousness. God’s plan, conceived and agreed upon in the godhead before the creation of the world was to glorify His Son by sending Him in the likeness of sinful flesh, meaning, in a mortal body, to offer His body as a sacrifice for sin. He, who lived and died by the Spirit of life which indwelled His mortal body, obtained righteousness in the power of the Spirit of life. This Spirit-assigned righteousness condemned all flesh attempts to attain righteousness. What made the flesh “sinful flesh”? It is sinful for the flesh to try to be righteous without the life of God as its source. Why is it sinful? Because it robs God of His glory through Jesus Christ. So today be encouraged by this great truth: God has done for you through sending His Son in the likeness of sinful flesh what you could not do, namely, set you free from the condemnation of sin in the flesh. There are some who think that God looked down the corridors of time and saw who would believe in Jesus by an exercise of “free will”, and then He put them into Christ. This verse totally exposes the fallacy in that view. If free will is an act of the flesh without the Spirit of Life as its source, then it is condemned by the life and death of Jesus Christ. God never intended you to be set free by the power of your fleshly free-will. It is also true that God never intends for us to love others by the power of our free-will, which is another name for the spirit of flesh. God has condemned sin in the flesh through Jesus’ coming in the flesh and dying in the flesh. That’s why you hear me saying day after day, God has called all who are His, all who have the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, to live to love with Him. The Spirit of life in Christ, when He was on the earth lived to love with His Father. Those who are set free from the law of sin and death live in this world as Jesus did. 1 John 4:13 “By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.” You have received a life of love from God which was manifested in Jesus, the Son of God. Be amazed, and abide in Him. Acknowledgment: Music from “Carried by the Father” by Eric Terlizzi. www.ericterlizzi.com
