PART 1 Should Ireland have an honours system like the UK to recognise good work?

A private members bill proposing that Ireland takes on a new formal honour system like that in the UK has been introduced by a group of senators. If passed by the Oireachtas, citizens awarded the honour would be given the letters G.U to their name for Gradam Uachtaráin. Is this a good idea?
