Why Thought Work Doesn't Work

I've noticed this myth out there when it comes to self-help gurus. The myth is that all you need is to think better thoughts.  When you're feeling frustrated- think a positive thought. When you're feeling down- think a postive thought. And while I understand that thought work is amazing- this myth is keeping a lot of you stuck.  Thought work is the beginning of awarenss for so many people. But the awareness actually helps us to understand the thing we need to focus more on- the emotion side of things. We need to see the thoughts, acknowledge them, but then we need to feel the emotions. That is why when we try to think postively or practice affirmtions- they're 'not working' because we haven't done the work to really process the original thought and emotions first.  Start with noticing the emotion you're having but then we have to acknowledge the emotion that is coming up with the thought and feel and relax into that.
