Kings hire Mike Brown. Are the Lakers Now More Likely to Hire Mark Jackson?

Locked On Lakers - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Lakers - A podcast by Locked On Podcast Network, Andy and Brian Kamenetzky

The Sacramento Kings have settled on former Lakers head coach Mike Brown, in a bit of an upset given the attention that had been given to Mark Jackson as a favorite for the gig. Jackson, though, has interviewed for the Lakers job, so the fact he's still on the market seems very relevant. He does reportedly have the support of LeBron James, but the Lakers (who didn't hire Ty Lue when given the chance a few years ago) have shown that at least when it comes to coaches, they don't always do LeBron's bidding. Does it matter that Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, one of the worst owners in the Association, was reportedly a big booster of Jackson while the basketball ops folks weren't? What about Jackson? He, like Brown, would be a "retread," but one with a very different path and background. He's been talked about for all sorts of jobs since Golden State fired him in 2014, including the Lakers position the last time around. If the Lakers really are going to bring him in, it certainly seems they should have some guarantees from LeBron that he'll be sticking around, first. Finally, should the Lakers maybe wait long enough to build a roster before they hire the coach, and try to match the roster they have to the coach they hire? Can they, with limited flexibility, give the new guy the roster he needs? HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: Mike Brown to Sacramento... Mark Jackson still on the market. SEGMENT 2: What reservations are fair to have about Jackson? Which ones aren't? What assurances should the Lakers need from James before committing to Jackson? SEGMENT 3: Are the Lakers putting the cart ahead of the horse hiring a head coach before filling out the roster? Can they actually tailor their personnel to the new guy's strengths, given their limited means? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
