The In-Season Tournament Featured Elite Lakers Defense? Is This Sustainable? Plus, Bronny's Debut!
Locked On Lakers - Daily Podcast On The Los Angeles Lakers - A podcast by Locked On Podcast Network, Andy and Brian Kamenetzky
Nobody is really sure what exactly comes next for the Lakers following their victory in the inaugural In-Season Tournament final. Will they carry the momentum over the final 59 regular season games? Did they discover a blueprint for something that will be instructive in the spring? Will everyone kind of forget all about it in three weeks? Not sure, but for now, one thing is abundantly clear: The Lakers showed themselves capable of playing championship caliber defense over the course of the last few games. Call it a combination of playoff-like intensity (even if the Lakers knew the IST wasn't the real playoffs, they treated it like a dress rehearsal) and the value of getting most of their players back in the lineup. The Lakers can now do stuff to other teams they couldn't do before, starting with deploying defenders like Cam Reddish and Jared Vanderbilt over all 48 minutes, anchored by Anthony Davis. They can then make their other matchups more appropriate, to protect guys that need it and play to the strengths of everyone. This is a nice luxury, and the results have been great. So can they keep it up? Can they do so while fixing the offense in the ways it needs? What about going forward? Should the Lakers be at all concerned about extra energy LeBron James put out to help the Lakers to a win? Could the fatigue question outweigh any potential benefits, or at the least, eat into them? We'll find out! HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: What was learned from the In-Season Tournament. Could it really make an impact for the Lakers going foward?
