Lone Duck’s Gun Dog Chronicles - A podcast by Bob Owens - Wednesdays

Tonight we have the pleasure of sitting down to speak with one of the most respected dog trainers in our country, Pat Nolan. We begin the show chatting with Pat and learning about how he got into the dog world and how a unique hobby caused a dog training epiphany for him. We could have spent hours talking with Pat about how this happened and how it evolved over the years to become a successful philosophy... so we'll have him back on the show. In talking with Pat, we discuss "training in drive" and how to shape a dog's behaviors by using their own internal motivation to complete the task at hand. Stay with me here, it's a lot to process and digest but it's brilliant. We then ask Pat how he knows when his dog is ready for the next step in the training process (this is super interesting) and we hear about his online training course, Retrieving from the pup up. Bob and the Lone Duck crew are working through this training course and it's worth the time and energy. One of the best parts of this conversation with Pat was hearing all of his little gems of knowledge formed by years of experience over many, many dogs. If you're like me, you'll find yourself feverishly scribbling notes and rewinding this to hear and digest his insights over and over. Of course, we had to ask Pat about his work with the military dogs and how that came to be and holy cow, what a story. We finish the conversation with Pat by discussing mistakes and disobedience when training dogs and how to handle each... think about that for a second because it's very intricate and important. Thank you to Pat for sitting down with us and sharing a few stories and training tips. We'd highly recommend you check out his website if you're interested to learn more. Want more Lone D?
