You’ve studied hard, and have found yourself at a decent job. You’ve accepted the work environment may not be “diverse”. However, we continue the work grind battling the microaggressions and curious questions surrounding your culture. In these spaces, POC becomes a generalized voice of their people, which is unfair, and constantly towing a line of two identities--being your authentic self and the acceptable/non-threatening ‘get along’ coworker. Is the paycheck worth the cussing out of co-workers? We’ll discuss what this looks like in the workspace as we try to be the Right Kind of Black Woman. Momologist of the Week: Faye McCray is an author and essayist whose popular essays on love, life and parenting have been featured in the Huffington Post, My Brown Baby, For Harriet, Madame Noire and other popular publications.
