So we felt it very necessary to give Leave No Trace the full Oscar Sprint Profile to discuss the great work of Debra Granik, Ben Foster, Thomasin Hardcourt McKenzie, and company. The conversation is a fun one. We talk about Also Mike’s recent trips to the connecticut woods with his puppy. We play a what if this was a horror movie game, and there’s a ton of non-spoiler production backstory information to gush over as Debra Granik and Ben Foster leave us with plenty of wisdom and craft to study. The Oscar chances for this film also intrigue us as we discuss what many great pundits from The Hollywood Reporter, Goldderby, and Awards Circuit predict will happen before we give our takes. Spoiler warning dance music plays and for our encore, we dive into the plot of this film and breakdown many a best scene. This film is worthy of a lot of critical respect. There’s no doubt about that, but we can’t help but struggle with the choices of the characters, not that they’re out of character, just heartbreaking to wrestle with without a doubt. We’ve also given the Oscar Sprint Profile treatment to Three Identical Strangers, First Man, A Star Is Born, The Wife, First Reformed, Won’t You Be My Neighbor, Searching, Crazy Rich Asians, BlacKkKlansman, Isle of Dogs, Eighth Grade, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Sorry To Bother You, The Incredibles 2, Hereditary, Avengers: Infinity War, A Quiet Place, and Black Panther. We’ve covered movie events like 2018’s Halloween, The Nun, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Deadpool 2, and The Cloverfield Paradox. So this marks our 24th 2018 film to receive at least one full episode’s worth of the MMO review focus, and there’s many more to come throughout awards season. So stay tuned.
