December 19, 2022 - National Oatmeal Muffin Day | National Hard Candy Day

Celebrate Every Day - A podcast by Q1 Network

Welcome to December 19, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate healthy hearts and candies that go the distance. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens was first published on December 19, 1843. Today Christmas would not be complete without the story of Ebineezer Scrooge and his miraculous change of heart. Dickens’s own reason for the seasonal tale can be summed up in line from Scrooge’s nephew Fred: “I have always thought of Christmas time as… a kind, forgiving, charitable…time; when men and women … open their shut-up hearts freely.” If this seems like a lot of humbug, consider changing that lump of coal in your chest by eating something healthy. Studies show that the heart-healthy fiber in oatmeal can improve the most fowl of dispositions. On National Oatmeal Muffin Day, celebrate your own change of heart with this delicious remedy. In 1949, Bill and Dorothy Harmsen founded Jolly Rancher in Golden, Colorado. The couple originally sold ice cream and chocolate, but found their ice cream sales plummeted during the winter months. This prompted them to focus their business on producing hard candies, a decision that would pay off big. The first flavors were grape, apple, and fire stix, and while these flavors are still going strong, most people put watermelon, blue raspberry and cherry on top. Today, Jolly Rancher produces the most popular hard candy of all time. On National Hard Candy Day, savor the long lasting flavor of a candy that goes the distance.
