Ep 707 - The Bookmaker and the Derby

Nick Luck Daily Podcast - A podcast by Nick Luck

Tom in for Nick and joined by Newsboy of the Daily Mirror David Yates to look at whether or not a bookmaker could and should sponsor this year’s Derby. This in response to yesterday’s Greg Wood article in the Guardian asking the same question. We hear from Star Sports’s founder Ben Keith who staunchly defends the bookmaker’s right to sponsor such a race. With the flat turf season just around the corner in the UK we hear from George Boughey who could run three horses in the Lincoln and from trainer Dominic Ffrench Davis who will saddle his first Brocklesby runner this weekend after a tie-up with Amo Racing. And it’s Tuesday so we go around the bloodstock world with Wetherby’s and this week to Nikolas Schenke and Tommy Wit who run Gestut Lunzen in Germany.
