Hey Tanner Fans, Angela Bowen, here the host of Oh Mylanta Holy Chalupas: An Unofficial Full House Fuller House Podcast. Today, I conclude the Grandparents Day series with the final episode Full House S7E17: The Last Dance, which aired on February 8, 1994. In this episode during his visit to San Francisco, Jesse's beloved grandfather, Papouli, dies in his sleep. Jesse and Michelle are both devastated as they try to come to terms with his death. I'd put off recording this episode for as long as I could, I wanted to wait until I was emotionally ready and could handle watching it again. I remember watching this episode when it first aired and realizing the promo that aired days before this episode was correct, this was an episode you shouldn't miss. For the first time we were seeing the Tanners/Katsopolis and Joey openly grieve someone who had passed away. Granted the two most affected by Papouli's passing where Jesse and Michelle. I loved the close relationship shared between Papouli and Michelle with learning a Greek dance and baking in the kitchen and his wise stories, there had to be a bond there between them just like Jesse had with his grandfather when he was a little boy to get that heartbreaking scene at the end with Jesse and Michelle, where they break down in each others arms, finally able to release that pain and hurt they had been holding in. Now I'd seen the episode a few times over the years courtesy of Hulu, but there were key scenes that were left out, that in watching this uncut DVD version, I was surprised helped piece some things together for me. In the beginning of the episode Danny and Joey are at the kitchen table preparing grape leaves and they're talking about going fishing when they were kids with Danny's father and how they dreamed one day when they were grown they would buy their own boat. One, I liked that we got a little tidbit of Danny and his dad because we don't know much about him and two this scene helped piece together how they ended up with the boat towards the end. The other scene I feel like I had never seen was with Danny and Michelle in her bedroom as she is asking her father why Papouli had to die, Danny just tells her he was old and time on this earth is short. He tells her to come to him with any questions and tells her they'll help each other through as a family. I thought the scene was ok, but honestly neither Bob Saget or whichever Olsen twin who was playing Michelle in this scene brought their A game to the table. I get it we needed to hold out for the powerhouse scene between Jesse and Michelle at the end, but this scene just fell flat for me and was kinda weak sauce. Overall, it was good to see this episode again in it's full unedited glory. Join me next week when I begin the new series for NOVEMBER, Back to School Part 2 Series, where I kick things off with Full house S2E17: El problema Grande de DJ, which aired on March 10, 1989. In this episode DJ gets a "D" in Spanish. Danny goes to try and find out what was going on and talks to the teacher. The teacher explains that DJ just wasn't trying. She comes over to the house later and labels things in Spanish. then she and Danny kiss. Dj and her friends come home and see them kissing and everyone laughs at her. Then Danny has to decide whether to continue to see the teacher or to respect DJ and her feelings. Have a great weekend everyone! To EMAIL The Podcast Go To: [email protected]
