Asking for help is a skill that, for many of us, has to be developed. Especially if you are someone who did well in school, was able to fly under the radar and complete the assignments adequately without needing to ask questions or get help from the teacher. For many of us, there is an internalized belief that we should be able to figure it out on our own, especially when it's something as seemingly natural as being a parent. At the same time, there's a pervasive cultural belief that parenting is hard. So that leaves us stuck, struggling, trying to figure out something that we know is going to be hard, is supposed to be hard, right, without ever asking for help because we should be able to figure it out on our own.It leads to a lot of struggle. A lot of frustration. And it just keeps going because of a reluctance to ask for help.In this episode, we're going to explore some of the different reasons people avoid seeking help when they're struggling, and hopefully make the process of finding the support you need feel a little more accessible.--- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/julia-mcgarey/support Get full access to The Blackbird Chronicles at juliamcgarey.substack.com/subscribe This is a public episode.
