Behavior Analysis and Parenting: Questions from Guest Shelly

Peace and Parenting: How to Parent without Punishments - A podcast by Michelle Kenney, M. Ed

Our kids have the right to say “no” and have choices. But it’s a delicate balancing act between that and making sure not to give in to everything they say either. Since kids also have underdeveloped brains, it can be difficult for them to properly communicate their negative emotions which can put them into conflict with their parents and other kids. This challenge is a natural frustration for parents and is something my guest is familiar with. Shelly Belk, behavior change coach and mother, joins me for this episode to ask me questions on parenting, and how she can better reconcile her background in behavior analysis while raising her daughter with empathy. We’ll always discuss the importance of allowing our children to experience and fail; to be the counselor and confidant rather than the fixer of their problems. Don’t miss out on this week’s episode so we can help our kids navigate their feelings and create healthier connections with them!   Episode Highlights: How can we navigate with kids who are good at negotiating Empathizing with our kids and allowing them to feel and process their negative emotions Teaching our kids to respect other kids’ boundaries without making them submissive Lean into inconsistency and expect the feelings   Connect with Shelly: Website | Shelly Belk Coaching Instagram | @shellybelkcoaching Facebook | Shelly Belk Coaching   Are you ready to change your family dynamic through connective parenting?
