Redefining Parenting: Cooperation, Not Control with Hannah and Kelty of Upbringing

Peace and Parenting - A podcast by Michelle Kenney, M. Ed

Resistance is just something that comes with parenting, be it telling our kids to turn off their phones or brush their teeth. But-- that doesn’t always have to be the case. We as parents can make the conscious choice to prioritise our personal relationships, using them to teach our kids what has to be done for themselves, effectively building up their own independence and self-control. In today's episode, I have Kelty and Hannah from Upbringing, here to discuss a new approach to connecting with our kids, so we can raise young adults that have a stronger sense of self and a more stable approach to life. They believe that by choosing to connect with our kids instead of controlling them, it can result in a relationship that positively reinforces self-discipline and accomplishing tasks for themselves-- instead of them simply following our words.   Episode Highlights: Who They Are The parenting dynamics of old Why the old dynamics need to change What you can do instead of power-parenting Focus on building relationships with your kids How to approach your kids to get a better response Kids and their safe spaces   About our Guests:   Hannah and Kelty currently run Upbringing-- an inclusive community that promotes the elevation of growth and connection.
