Why Is Play So Hard Sometimes with Guest Emily Murray from Hand in Hand Parenting

Peace and Parenting: How to Parent without Punishments - A podcast by Michelle Kenney, M. Ed

Many of us have had experiences with bottling up emotions, and kids are no exceptions to this. Kids aren’t as capable of properly communicating their emotions so when there’s a backlog of feelings like frustration and sadness, this can make them act out so they can vent. This can be equally frustrating for parents too but it is possible to connect with your kids in a way they can easily understand. For this episode, I’m joined by Emily, a member from the Hand in Hand Parenting group and she will share with us one of their five listening tools for parents-- playlistening! Play is an important aspect of kids’ lives and it can be used as a better response to unsavory behavior over shame and encourages you to meet aggression with affection. Hand in Hand Parenting has been instrumental in my journey to become a better parent for my daughters, and I hope this will help any of you having similar struggles so don’t forget to listen in!   Episode Highlights: Playlisten as a form of connection through play There is a time to be silly and there is a time to seriously connect Why playlistening wasn’t appealing to Emily at first Children are good and they want to be good Why play can be hard for parents The benefits of playlistening    Connect with Hand in Hand Parenting: Website | Hand in Hand Parenting Facebook | Hand in Hand Parenting Community Group   Thanks to Hand in Hand Parenting, I managed to create a major shift in my parenting that allowed me to create a better connection with my daughters.
