Adapted Pedagogies of Martial Arts under Covid-19 - Dr George Jennings

Physical Activity Researcher - A podcast by paresearcher

Covid-19 has made it impossible to practice many movement culture activities in the way we used to. Martial arts schools have been forced to close and move to online learning. But how can you teach something so physical via zoom? In this episode, Dr George Jennings shares his findings from case studies on adapted pedagogies under Covid-19 lockdowns in three martial arts environments in the UK. You'll find out that surprisingly, there have been also positive aspects to the changed ways of practising Martial arts. George is a qualitative sociologist and a lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University. His research interest lies in the study of traditionalist alternative physical cultures including Eastern movement forms, martial arts, native games and folkloric dance.
