Is Gappa angry? We find out if this Triphibian terror is truly as terrible as people say. It’s time for another Daikaiju Discussion epsiode (#108) here at the Kaijucast. We’re taking a closer look at Nikkatsu Studios’ singular kaiju film, Gappa The Triphibian Monster (1967) – aka Monster From A Prehistoric Planet. According to some sources, the film is supposed to be a parody but we didn’t really think this movie has the comedic chops to back it up. Regardless, this one was another hilarious viewing thanks to my crew for the evening, Martin, Rachel & Bryan. Even if this movie is trying to cash in on the daikaiju craze in Japan, it produced an easily targeted night for our own MST3k-style fun. You guys are getting kind of excited about this new Godzilla movie, right? I know I keep using the term cautiously optimistic, but everything I see from the film gives me more and more optimism. So I’m really looking forward to checking it out on the big screen – and hopefully a number of times! This episode features another large news section so make sure you check out the show notes below for the links to the mentioned articles. MONSTROUS & SOMEWHAT METALLY MUSIC: 1. GODZILLA has arrived on our shores. We are going to do things a little differently for this next month’s discussion. Because Pacific Rim was by far our most impressive amount of listener homework that was submitted – and I’m pretty sure that this film will shatter that record, we’ll be breaking up the discussion into two separate episodes. Have your homework turned in before May 24th to have your thoughts questions and reviews part of the listener discussion episode! The Daika[...]
