The Purpose Made Podcast - A podcast by Purpose Made

With the cost of living soaring and a global recession afoot, people and businesses are already facing the consequences of cascading global crises. Crises which amounts to a perfect storm of falling incomes, rising prices, public service cuts, rising inequalities, lack of investment and more. Research has also shown employer investment in areas such as training has fallen sharply since 2005 risking nations such as the UK ‘sleepwalking into skills stagnation’. While the war for talent has long been an issue (particularly in the tech sector) and the perils and pitfalls of short-term thinking long known - the unique challenges of today presents new existential risks for people and businesses within this changed global economy. Today's guest, Michael Houlihan, CEO of Generation is working to fix some of the existential problems we witness whilst creating new pathways between education & employment.Generation partners with companies to provide free, effective and intensive training programmes that transform education-to-employment systems, helping to prepare, place, and support people into meaningful, well-paid jobs that would otherwise be inaccessible. Generation has partnered with The BlackRock Foundation, McKinsey & Company, Microsoft, Verizon and more to successfully tackle global unemployment, placing thousands of people into jobs that have generated more than $140 million in salary income to date. Working in over 16 countries, Generation has also been collaborating with Government and businesses to pinpoint where there are skills gaps, helping to train and reskill people who might have lost their jobs, were unable to access higher education, or who want to explore an entirely new career path.During today's conversation we explore the importance of future conscious thinking and behaviours, why remote working and flexibility is key to economic growth, how older workers are assets, not liabilities coupled to a new pathway to a new generation and more.I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation with Michael and we hope you do too.
