Michael O’Brien tells the story of His Last Bad Day when he was out for a bike ride and got hit head on by an SUV. This accident acted as a huge pause button for his life, changed its trajectory, and provided an opportunity to live every day with perspective, presence, and gratitude. In this episode we discuss: * The accident * The Do, Be, Have vs. Be, Do, Have distinction (this one is gold) * Michael’s daily practice of mindfulness, presence, and gratitude practice * How we can change our lives without getting hit by an SUV * How 1% changes can create huge changes over time * The leadership anxiety epidemic * How to slow down the pace of the workday with a PBR (not the beer!) * How to deal with the negative self narrative * The power of forgiveness and acceptance Bio When was your last bad day? For Michael OBrien, it was July 11th, 2001. It was the day he was struck head-on by a speeding SUV while out on a training bike ride and shares his journey in his best-selling memoir, Shift: Creating Better Tomorrows and donates the proceeds to World Bicycle Relief. His doctors prepared him for a life of limits and suffering, but the power of mindset, resilience, gratitude, and a strong peloton paved a different path for Michael. Today he has a goal of helping 1,000,000 people have their last bad day. Because his last bad day helped him shift his perspective and approach to his career and life and he wants others to experience the same. Now as an executive coach, speaker, and author he helps others move from human doer to becoming the wealthiest human being they know – starting from the inside out.
