Raised by his father in the boxing world, Montell was highly influenced by Muhammad Ali as a young child. Forced to give up boxing at the age of 12 after his father’s death, Montell was left navigating the streets of Chicago and dodging the trouble that comes with it. Rekindling his love for boxing at the age of 19, he was able to qualify for the US Olympic Team within 1 year. After handing Roy Jones Jr. his first loss and defeating James Toney twice, Montell feels he never got the respect he deserved.
