F1 took in the final leg of its latest triple header with the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Despite delighting the home crowd on Saturday with pole position, Charles Leclerc and Ferrari had to be content with second place, as Max Verstappen roared to his 11th win of 2022 to put himself within touching distance of his second World Championship title.

Though he qualified second, Verstappen had started the race seventh after taking a grid penalty for excessive component usage. But with several drivers immediately behind him also being penalised, there followed several hours of confusion while the FIA deliberated over whether Verstappen ought to start fourth or seventh. Does F1's current grid penalty system need simplifying?

Daniel Ricciardo's stricken McLaren saw the Safety Car deployed with five laps to go, but with marshals taking longer than anticipated to move the MCL35 into a safe place, the Italian Grand Prix would ultimately end under the Safety Car, prompting boos from the crowd. Should the race have been red-flagged to allow for a five-lap dash to the finish, as happened in Baku last year?

And with Nyck de Vries scoring championship points on an unexpected Grand Prix debut deputising for Alex Albon at Williams, what are the chances that the Dutchman will find an F1 race drive for 2023?
