In a trend mirroring Australia, around 30 per cent of Americans call themselves religious "nones". That is, they have no affiliation with any organised religion. But a study of 11,000 people by the Pew Research Center shows that many "nones" still believe in God. Also, is solitude an antidote to the anxieties caused by our modern culture of distraction?
