Welfare payments cancelled unlawfully need to be investigated says ACOSS CEO

A series of possibly unlawful decisions by the department of employment and workplace relations has led to more than 1000 people having their welfare payments cancelled. The department stopped those cancellations in July this year but the Australian Council of Social Services says the department and these decisions need to be investigated by the federal ombudsman to ensure they don't happen again.
