Ep 077: Overcoming Mom Guilt: Prioritizing Yourself

Redefining You - A podcast by Amanda Cahill

On today’s episode of Redefining Motherhood, I share an important topic that resonates with so many women in this community - the overwhelming guilt we feel as mothers when trying to find time for ourselves. In a recent survey, a number of respondents expressed struggling to carve out time for themselves, not because they can't fit it in, but because they feel guilty doing so. As mothers, we often feel like we should be present with our children 100% of the time when we're not working. We put immense pressure on ourselves to be the perfect, ever-available parent, and any time spent on our own interests or hobbies can trigger feelings of guilt. I share my own personal experiences with this, and how I've had to consciously remind myself that taking time for myself is not selfish, but rather a necessary act that allows me to be a better mother, partner, and person overall. I encourage listeners to find ways to proactively schedule activities and outings that bring them joy, whether it's a monthly brunch with friends, a solo shopping trip, or a fitness class. The key is to work through the guilt and remember that you're putting your oxygen mask on first so you can pour into others. I want you to know that you are not alone in this struggle and that with some intentional effort, we can learn to release the guilt and embrace doing more things for ourselves that we enjoy.   Connect with Amanda: IG: @amandacahill_ Visit: www.amandacahill.com Follow @redefiningmotherhood
