This lecture discusses key ideas from the ancient philosopher and statesman Marcus Tullius Cicero's work, On Duties (De Officiis), which presents a largely Stoic view on ethics, virtues, relationships, and duties or moral obligations Specifically it examines some of the key issues involved in the topic of duty, as the Stoics conceived of it. He distinguishes between the study of the final end for human beings, and the study of "rules for living". He also sets out five main inquiries concerning the Right and the Expedient.
