This is a short reflection on an insightful passage from Epictetus' Enchiridion, chapter 34, in which Epictetus suggests a practice that we can engage in when we are encountering something that tempts us with the promise of enjoying pleasure. Instead of giving in right away, we can take a pause and consider how we will feel after either indulging in the pleasure or resisting it.
