This lecture discusses key ideas from the ancient hedonist philosopher Epicurus' Principal Doctrines (as well as the Letter to Menoecius and the Vatican Sayings) Specifically it examines his discussion of two distinct sorts of pleasures -- moving or kinetic pleasures, caused by some sort of change on the part of the one experiencing it (e.g. drinking wine), and static pleasures, consisting in a state of rest or satiety, free from pain, fears, and troubles.
