Air strikes hit northern Syria as government vows to "crush" insurgency

Russian and Syrian jets have struck parts of northern Syria, days after a surprise rebel offensive took control of the city of Aleppo. Rebels are taking advantage of external conflicts as they seek to shift the balance of power - but President Bashar al-Assad has vowed to 'crush' the insurgency.
