I'm having an epiphany! Thanks to Duke Anthropologist Herman Pontzer - I am beginning to understand that we must use exercise as a way to tone and care for the body - but by itself exercise is not an effective weight loss tool. Exercising burns calories for sure! But over time our bodies adapt...and protect us from burning too many calories. At least...I think that's what's happening! So exercise to keep your body strong inside and out. And when you want to lose weight - eat less! It's oddly freeing to have exercise and diet as completely separate components.
