Despite his distinguished academic standing, Carl is no stranger to censorship and over the past two years, his work has been branded fake news and false information by various social media giants. Other academics and even a politician have also attempted to smear him on social media. During the pandemic, we've seen how cancel culture has been extended to academia and the sciences. Some say the online safety bill currently going through parliament will likely increase the amount of material removed online. Some argue this will protect the public from potentially dangerous misinformation. But others say misinformation today can be tomorrow's facts.
