Donna Murch speaks in this session recorded at Socialism 2022. This talk will focus on the fate of Black working class people in the 1970s through the present, as a way to challenge mainstream understanding of the successes of the civil rights movement. While greater mobility and access became possible for a segment of black workers (especially in the public sector), targeted criminalization, the overlapping wars on drugs and gangs, deindustrialization and the neoliberal turn had devastating effects for the Black majority.
