Dr. Gershenwald is co-author with Richard A. Scolyer of the ASO TNM staging editorial, “Melanoma Staging: American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) 8th Edition and Beyond.” Dr. Gershenwald is a surgical oncologist-investigator in melanoma, with a research focus on integrating clinical, pathological, molecular and immune factors to improve melanoma staging and to develop clinical tools to improve clinical decision-making for patients with melanoma. Dr. Gershenwald is the Dr. John M. Skibber Professor of Surgery, Department of Surgical Oncology, and Medical Director, Melanoma and Skin Center, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, and Chair, American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Melanoma Expert Panel.
