School of Hard Knocks (with Fakhrie Arendse)

Sports for Social Impact - A podcast by David Thibodeau - Tuesdays

Fakhrie Arendse is the Sport Social Worker at School of Hard Knocks. He is an optimistic, compassionate, and outspoken husband and father. Fakhrie's passion for Social Work was born out of exposure to adverse norms in his own community, and a rather inexplicable interest in 'why people are the way they are'. This psychology major has since worked with society's most vulnerable; his experience ranging from trauma and grief counselling, mediation, family therapy, advocacy, conflict management, youth development, community strengthening, public speaking, to project management and coordination. He has a particular passion for youth empowerment through sport and believes the fruits of a well-functioning society are fostered in the efforts of nurturing young people - by creating an environment conducive for youth to make a positive contribution to the world at large. School of Hard Knocks (SoHK) is an award winning Cape Town based non-profit with a proven track record in using sport and one on one counselling to help young people cope with trauma, change outdated perceptions of gender, and improve their physical and emotional well-being.
