Pitcher Mark Appel on the blessings of 2022 and making his MLB debut after waiting 9 years

Mark Appel was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft by the Houston Astros. In 2015, he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies, but in 2018 at the age of 26, he stepped away from baseball. After three years, he announced he was making a comeback to chase his MLB dream and return to pitch professionally. He appeared in 23 games with the Phillies’ Double- and Triple-A affiliates in 2021, striking out 60 batters in 71.1 innings pitched. In 2022, his dream was realized as he made his MLB debut in June with the Phillies.
