“The reason why we have platforms like lockerroom is cause we're not the norm... it’s important to have platforms such as them, because you get to dedicate specifically and get to hone in on topics and people that would not necessarily be covered in mainstream media" - Ashley Stanley, is an advocate for all athletes and an enthusiast of all sport. Currently her role is with the NZ Rugby Players Association as a player representation advisor. She has a pretty extensive scope of experience in sports journalism - prior to her current position she worked out of the Newsroom NZ subsection the 'lockeroom' – a dedicated section in the newsroomnz covering women in sport in NZ, and is a regular contributing writer as well as frequently hold sports media roles across many areas including the Women's Rugby World Cup 2022. Before she officially dove into her scholarship work at the lockerroom, Ashley started the sports blog – Beyond the Mark – that dives into getting to know the person beyond the player and has a true, deep desire to not only help athletes but also share her learnings with systems to enact systematic development. We also discuss the top 3 findings from her masters’ research into the player experience for Māori and Pacific Island descent athletes within Auckland Rugby (mens). Really stoked to welcome this week’s guest to Tall Poppy Talk, listen to the full interview on Spotify, iHeart Radio, or Apple Podcasts.#rugby #advocation #representation #māori #maori #sporting #reels #highperformance #sport #journalism #media #womeninsport #newzealand #development #diversity #innovate #youngleaders #kiwi #aotearoa #newzealand #inspiration #talent #leader #reels #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealth #podcast #sport #healthandwellness #youth #fitness #highperformance #olympics #coach #coaching #aotearoa #tallpoppy #content
