Human Behavioral Ecology with Sarah Alami Gouraftei

Welcome Sarah Alami Gouraftei, a PhD candidate at UC Santa Barbara in the Integrative Anthropological Sciences Laboratory (IAS). Sarah grew up in Morocco, and reflects on the social inequalities that were very apparent to her in Casablanca. She says she really saw the harm social injustices can do which ultimately is what really sparked her interests in behavior, the origins of human sociality and social hierarchies, wealth inequality, and gender inequalities. She also talks about how she really admires the solidarity and hospitality of people in Morocco, explaining that in Morocco it is very important for people take care of their social relations. We discuss a project she is looking forward to post-PhD studying social ties, relationships, and gender inequalities in Southeastern Morocco; as well as all the details on the questions she is studying for her dissertation.
