Their plan was to assassinate King James I and install a Catholic monarch, but the plot was foiled, and Fawkes was arrested and executed. This event is commemorated in the United Kingdom as Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night.1872 - Susan B. Anthony's illegal vote: Suffragist Susan B. Anthony cast a ballot in the U.S. presidential election, despite women not having the right to vote at the time. She was subsequently arrested and fined $100, but her actions were a part of the broader women's suffrage movement.1917 - The Balfour Declaration: On November 5, 1917, the British government issued the Balfour Declaration, a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Lord Walter Rothschild expressing support for the establishment of a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine. This declaration had a significant impact on the establishment of the State of Israel.1940 - Franklin D. Roosevelt re-elected: In the United States, President Franklin D. Roosevelt was re-elected to an unprecedented third term in office, defeating Republican candidate Wendell Willkie in the presidential election.1994 - The world's longest tunnel: The Channel Tunnel, connecting the United Kingdom and France, was officially opened. This engineering marvel consists of three tunnels, with two rail tunnels and a service tunnel. It allows for transportation between the two countries via high-speed trains and vehicles.These are just a few historical events that happened on November 5th throughout history.
