Undiagnosed ADHD, at best, can be a life-long nuisance and energy-sapper, but at worst, it can trigger the worst of mental health issues, including suicide ideation.Unfortunately, this week's guest, Priyanka Patel, a pharmacist and who was diagnosed with ADHD at 27, knows this all too well. She was diagnosed with depression in 2020 and, despite her efforts to try and get an ADHD assessment, was not listened to by her GP. Priyanka was then put on a variety of medications, which led to a significant decline in her mental health. Since finally getting her ADHD diagnosis, Priyanka's life has transformed, and now she is on a mission to ensure no other woman has to go through what she did.During this week's episode, Kate and Priyanka talk about:Priyanka's mental health and diagnosis storyHow Priyanka's family dealt with her diagnosisFocussing on all our negatives instead of our strengthsThe stigma of mental health, ADHD and medication in Indian cultureHow to approach medication for your situationCultural views of neurodiversityHow ADHD Medication works in your systemTips to help feel better while taking medicationSubtle ways our ADHD symptoms creep upAccommodations we can choose to help ourselvesPriyanka's work to improve NHS GPs' knowledge of ADHD symptoms in womenIncreasing awareness and screening of ADHD in GPsKate's new four-part workshop series, Regulating Your ADHD Nervous System, is available here.Welcome to a new episode of ADHD Women's Wellbeing Wisdom!
