AI program developed by researchers can detect abnormal heart rhythms that doctors may overlook
The Artificial Intelligence Podcast - A podcast by Dr. Tony Hoang

An artificial intelligence (AI) program developed by researchers at the Smidt Heart Institute in Los Angeles can detect abnormal heart rhythms that doctors may overlook. Using echocardiogram images, the AI program can identify subtle signs of atrial fibrillation (A-Fib) in patients, even when it is not present during their echocardiogram study. A-Fib is challenging to detect as it occurs when the upper chambers of the heart sometimes beat in sync with the lower chambers, but not always. By training the AI program using over 100,000 echocardiogram videos, the program successfully distinguished normal and abnormal heart rhythms and predicted which patients would develop A-Fib within 90 days. This AI program has the potential to significantly improve the early detection and diagnosis of A-Fib, ultimately enhancing patient care and treatment. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tonyphoang/message
