A group including Qualcomm, Google, and Intel has formed the UXL Foundation in San Francisco with Intel's OneAPI at its core, aiming to challenge Nvidia's dominance in the artificial intelligence chip market. The open-source project targets Nvidia's CUDA software, crucial for Microsoft, OpenAI, Alphabet (Google's parent), and other companies in developing AI applications. UXL plans to finalize technical specifications in the first half of this year, refine technology by year's end, and support Nvidia hardware and code in the long term.
